As part of the Speech & Drama programme, students work towards LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) Speech and Drama examinations later in the academic year.
LAMDA is one of the UK’s oldest and most respected drama institutions, offering internationally recognised qualifications that support students’ communication, performance, and personal development.
Why Students Choose LAMDA Performance Exams:
1. Recognised qualifications to strengthen a student’s CV and support future university applications
4. Stronger spoken communication skills
2. UCAS tariff points available at higher grades (Grades 6–8), which contribute towards university entry in the UK.
5. Improved performance skills that transfer positively into school presentations, interviews, and assessments
3. Increased confidence, motivation, and maturity through working towards a clear personal goal
6. Development of independent study skills, focus, and preparation techniques that support learning across subjects
For students considering the performing arts as a future pathway, LAMDA examinations also provide:
high-quality audition material
experience working independently and with purpose
a recognised qualification valued within creative and academic settings
How Exam Entries Work:
LAMDA examinations are graded and assessed externally, with students entered at a level appropriate to their age, experience, and readiness.
Exam entry is optional
Readiness and interest are discussed with parents at the beginning of Term 2
The emphasis is always on confidence, progress, and personal development, rather than pressure or competition.
As students progress, there will also be opportunities to take part in local speech and drama festivals, such as Feile Luimnigh, which takes place in January each year
Festival participation is:
optional and offered to students who are interested and ready
approached as a positive performance experience rather than a pressure-based competition
